China and the US are interested in the construction of a third nuclear power plant (NPP) in Turkey, the Turkish newspaper Sabah reports.
Turkey negotiates the construction of the third nuclear power plant with the US Westinghouse Electric Company and China’s State Nuclear Technology Corporation (SNPTC).
Earlier the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources reported that the three nuclear power plants will be built in the country.The first NPP Akkuyu Turkey plans to build together with Russia.
The intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Turkey on cooperation in the construction and operation of the nuclear power plant at Akkuyu near Mersin in southern Turkey was signed in 2010.
The construction of the nuclear power plants is expected to be completed in 2020.
The second nuclear power plant in Turkey will be built in the province of Sinop on the Black Sea coast. In April 2015, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has ratified the agreement between Turkey and Japan on cooperation in the nuclear sphere. The agreement with Japan on the construction of Turkish second nuclear power plant in Sinop province was signed in 2013. The project is scheduled for completion by 2023.
