On 6th of December (Sunday) 2015 in the Cathedral of St. Nicholas (Myra of Lycia, Demre), the Divine Liturgy will be held on the fete day of St. Nicholas.
Pontifical mass will be held by Metropolitan Myra of Lycia, Grace Chrysostomos.
Divine Liturgy will be started at 9 am.
Church of St. Nicholas in Myra is the church of Saint bishop Nicholas Wonderworker, which is located in Demre (Turkey), in antiquity this city was known as Myra. In the IV century St. Nicholas was a bishop; In this place he was buried in a marble sarcophagus.
The Cathedral consists of a basilica in the shape of a cross, a great space, a bell, two rooms at each side, one quadrangular and two small rooms.
Nearby the temple there are located aula and a double narthex with cross arc. The church’s walls were decorated with frescoes XI and XII centuries, pieces could be discerned up to now and the floor was paved with mosaics of geometric forms. In the semicircular part of the central nave was sintronon with seats for the priests, the bishop’s cathedra and the gallery. The central nave is separated from the aisles by arched galleries. The roof of the church was originally crowned with a bell during the restoration was replaced by arc.

The sarcophagus where originally were the relics of St. Nicholas is located in the southern nave of the church, between two columns, behind the destroyed marble partition. The saint was buried there. The sarcophagus is made of white marble, decorated with various reliefs and ornament with floral pattern.
On May 1087 the relics of Saint bishop were transported by Italian merchants to the Bari city. At the present time sarcophagus is covered by glass.
Residents of Alanya and Mahmutlar could visit the liturgy taking a special shuttle service. Departure is scheduled on 6th of December at 3:00.
