The Office of Information Technology and Communications has amended the regulation on the registration of devices with electronic identification information. Previously, the deadline for filing an application for registration of an IMEI electronic device brought to Turkey from abroad was 120 days. Due to the outbreak of a new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19), the application period has increased to 365 days.
The IMEI of a device imported into Turkey is «gray-listed» and can be used for 365 days from the date of entry into the country.
Electronic devices that, after the expiration of the term, are not included in the lists of registered, but continue to be used, will be automatically added to the “black list”, as well as considered “illegal devices” and will be closed for use (blocked).
A device whose IMEI number is on the “black list” will be able to call the emergency call 112.
Only those devices that are used for Turkish mobile communications (Turkish SIM cards) will be blocked. For example, if you connect only the Internet via WiFi to your mobile phone or tablet and do not use the services of Turkish mobile operators, then registration is not needed and the devices will not be blocked.
From January 1, 2021, registration in the system and the introduction of the IMEI phone number in the Turkish base (“white list”) cost 2006 liras.
