Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) canceled all celebrations as for the New Year 2016 to extend respect for the soldiers and civilians who were killed and injured during the anti-terrorist operations in the south-east of the country.
On Monday, 28th of December this information was reported by the official representative of the Turkish Armed Forces, Major General Ertugrul Gazi Ozkurchu.
In a written statement Ozkurchu informed that the Turkish armed forces successfully carry out obligations to others, fighting against the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the southeastern regions Gizre, Silopi and Sur. “The Turkish armed forces canceled New Year’s celebrations by cause of the difficult situation faced by the country, and respect for the feelings of the people and the soldiers,” – said in a statement Ozkurchu.
He also noted that in 2012 the government canceled all public events and entertainment programs due to the earthquake in the eastern province Van on October 2011, which was a cause of 600 human deaths.
