The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) choose Turkey to Humanitarian Award 2015, which received more than two millions refugees. Turkey won the Humanitarian Award in 2015 for receiving of about two million Syrian refugees since 2011 the start of the internal war in Syria, also for the reception of about 200 thousand Iraqis. While the award was presented to Ambassador of Turkey Serdar Kilic in Washington in the hall standing everybody was applauding. In his speech, Kilic said that since the days of the Ottoman Empire, Turkey has become a safe harbor for refugees who hide from the civil war and clashes. Kilic pointed out that since 2011 Turkey has received 2.2 million Syrian citizens, exceeding the number of refugees were received by the United States for last 30 years.
