With the adoption of decision No. 106, published in the «Resmi gazete» on 19 September 2018, some provisions on the possibility of foreigners obtaining Turkish citizenship have been changed.
President Tayyip Erdogan signed amendments to article 20 of the regulation on the implementation of the law on Turkish citizenship, which entered into force in 2010, regulating the acquisition of “exclusive Turkish citizenship”for foreigners.
In accordance with the new rules, the fixed amount of capital provided for the right to Turkish citizenship was reduced from $ 2 million to $ 500,000.
In addition, the minimum value of real estate required by foreigners for naturalization in Turkey has also been reduced from $ 1 million to $ 250,000.
“When purchasing real estate, within the framework of article 20 of the Regulation on the implementation of the Turkish citizenship Law, a foreign citizen has no right to sell real estate acquired for the purpose of obtaining Turkish citizenship within 3 years.»
In addition, the employment of at least 100 persons included in the conditions for granting the right to citizenship has been changed to 50 persons. In order to qualify for naturalization, the amount of deposits to be held in Turkish banks has been reduced from $ 3 million to $ 500,000.
