Turkish Coast Guard withdrew 13 tons of marijuana

Turkish Ministry of Interior Affairs received information on drug’s smuggling by ship under the flag of Bolivia, sailing in international waters. Narcotic Police contacted to the Coast Guard, which provided one aircraft, one ship and on 3d of January indicated a location of the vessel and started a surveillance.
Later, on approval of Internal Affairs’ Turkish Ministry and in cooperation with the Government of Bolivia’s security forces in Turkey, in accordance with the UN Convention against Illegal Drugs and Psychotropic substances Traffic was taken place an operation to detain the ship. According to Turkish authorities, the ship, after a legal search, will be outstrip by the Coast Guard to the nearest point in the territorial waters of Turkey.
Coast Guard turned to action, after obtaining a permit, and conducted an operation against a ship under the flag of Bolivia in international waters in the north-east of the Libyan port, Tobruk.
In the first stage of the operation were found 13 tons of marijuana, searches on the ship go on. During the operation, were arrested 10 foreign citizens who on the same board will be delivered to Turkey.
Representatives of the Interior Affairs’ Turkish Ministry reported that it is the first operation carried out in international waters by Turkey. It’s important to note that 13 tons of marijuana it’s a record amount which was withdrawn at a heat.
